Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving; we get stronger and more resilient. Life often brings challenges we do not choose, but within those challenges there is also an opportunity for growth, healing, and transformation. Counseling can help individuals recognize their inner strength, build resilience, and discover they are capable of navigating even life’s most difficult seasons with hope and courage.

Choosing to begin counseling is an act of courage in itself, and I am proud of anyone who takes that first step toward healing and growth. I am honored and excited for the opportunity to walk alongside clients on their journey as they discover their strength, navigate challenges, and move toward greater healing, hope, and resilience.

Areas of Focus

I work with individuals facing a wide range of emotional, relational, and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and concerns related to self-esteem and identity. I also support clients navigating relationship difficulties, grief and loss, trauma, addiction and substance use concerns, and struggles with motivation, decision-making, and behavioral change. I am passionate about helping clients better understand themselves, build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and move toward healing, growth, and a greater sense of purpose.

Therapeutic Methods

I believe therapy is most effective when it feels collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs and experiences. My approach is rooted in creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and empowered to grow. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), while maintaining a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens. I believe healing often begins with increased self-awareness, honest reflection, and a deeper understanding of the patterns that shape our thoughts, emotions, and relationships. My counseling style balances warmth and compassion with thoughtful challenge, helping clients build insight, strengthen resilience, and move toward meaningful and lasting change.

About Me

I was born in Las Vegas and raised in East Tennessee. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lee University in 2023 and am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Richmont Graduate University.

I am deeply passionate about serving as an advocate for individuals in my community, particularly those navigating substance use challenges and the transition following incarceration. Over the past three years, my work in corrections has given me the opportunity to walk alongside individuals during pivotal moments of growth and change, reinforcing my belief in each person’s capacity for healing, resilience, and transformation.

My passion for counseling is rooted in a desire to create a supportive and compassionate space where individuals feel seen, heard, and empowered as they work toward meaningful change in their lives.

Outside of counseling, I enjoy reading, spending quality time with my husband, and traveling to experience different cultures and perspectives around the world.

Jocelyn Smith is a Graduate Student intern at Hopeology Wellness who enjoys caring for others in the counseling room and spending time with her family and dog in her free time.
